Special court orders eight people to undergo DNA test
PUDUKOTTAI: A special court for exclusive trial of cases registered under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Pudukottai on Tuesday ordered eight residents of Vengaivayal village to undergo DNA test on Wednesday morning as appealed by the CB-CID police in connection with the water contamination case.
The court had reserved the order on July 1 when the eight people were allowed to submit their opinions on the request by the CB-CID to put them through the DNA test.

While the eight people called themselves victims of the water contamination issue and refused to undergo the test, the CB-CID argued that it had no intention to victimise the eight because they identified 169 people to undergo DNA tests.
Hearing the arguments from both the sides on Saturday, session judge S Jayanthi on Saturday ordered the eight to cooperate with the investigation of the CB-CID, which had no other option to pursue the case.
It may be recalled that the human faecal matter was found in the water tank in the dalit colony in Vengaivayal village on December 27. The case which was investigated by the Vellanur police was transferred to the CB-CID subsequently. CB-CID too registered a fresh first information report under sections of the IPC and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
The Madras high court on March 29 had appointed a one-man commission led by a retired judge M Sathyanarayanan to probe the incident.
